The study showed those adults between 40 and 60 years of age suffering from periodontal disease, had double the risk of AMD compared to healthy controls. This risk accounted for confounding factors such as hypertension, inflammation (C-reactive protein), cardiovascular disease, body mass index, sex, race, education, smoking and income.
So the theme “the mouth is part of the body” (and vice versa) keeps popping up.
